The treatment
What an oral appliance does, and its limits
How it supports your airway
A custom mandibular advancement appliance holds your lower jaw gently forward while you sleep. That small shift helps keep the soft tissues at the back of the throat from collapsing, the usual cause of snoring and obstructed breathing. Worn only at night, it is discreet, quiet and easy to travel with.
When you need a medical referral first
An oral appliance treats snoring and mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnoea. But sleep apnoea is a medical condition, and it is not something we diagnose from the dental chair. You should be assessed by your GP or a sleep physician, usually through a sleep study, before appliance therapy if any of the following apply:
- You have not yet been diagnosed but have strong warning signs
- Your snoring comes with witnessed pauses in breathing
- You have significant daytime sleepiness affecting driving or work
- You have heart, lung or other relevant medical conditions
We will never rush you into treatment
If a sleep study or medical opinion is the safer first step, we arrange the referral and pick things up once you are diagnosed.
Device options
Choosing the right appliance for you
Not every device suits every mouth. Here is how the main options compare, and we recommend the right one at your consultation.
| Option | Best for | Adjustable | Fit | Longevity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Custom adjustable appliance (recommended) | Snoring & mild–moderate OSA | Yes — titratable | Precision digital fit | 3–5+ years |
| Custom fixed appliance | Stable, simpler cases | No | Custom fit | 2–4 years |
| Soft anti-snore guard | Occasional light snoring | Limited | Softer, bulkier | 1–2 years |
| Boil-and-bite (off-the-shelf) | Short-term only, not advised long term | No | Generic, often loose | Months |
Contraindications and suitability
Oral appliance therapy is not right for everyone. It may not be suitable with too few or unhealthy teeth to anchor a device, active gum disease, significant jaw-joint (TMJ) problems, central rather than obstructive sleep apnoea, or severe OSA better managed with CPAP. Where an appliance is not the safe choice, we say so and guide you to the right alternative.

Warranty covers the appliance itself and excludes wear from misuse. Full terms provided in writing at fitting.
Insurance & billing
Medical or dental cover? We sort it out.
Because obstructive sleep apnoea is a recognised medical condition, treatment is often covered under private medical insurance, not just dental plans. The rules can be confusing, so we do the legwork.
Medical insurance
Sleep apnoea is a medical diagnosis, so many private medical policies, with a referral, contribute towards assessment and appliance therapy.
Dental insurance
Some dental plans cover part of the appliance as a dental appliance. Cover and limits vary by policy.
Self-pay and finance
No cover, or a shortfall? Transparent self-pay pricing and interest-free finance keep it manageable.
We handle the paperwork
We check your eligibility, request pre-authorisation and submit claims directly to your insurer, so you can focus on getting better sleep.
Check your cover
Share a few details and we confirm what your policy includes within one working day.
By submitting you agree we can contact you about your enquiry. We never share your details.
Thanks — we have your details and will confirm your cover within one working day.

Frequently asked questions
No. Obstructive sleep apnoea is a medical condition that must be diagnosed through a sleep study arranged via your GP or a sleep physician. An oral appliance is a treatment we provide once a diagnosis and, where needed, a referral are in place.
It can. Because obstructive sleep apnoea is a medical condition, treatment is sometimes covered under private medical insurance rather than a dental plan. Cover varies by policy and insurer. Use the coverage check and we confirm what your policy includes and handle the paperwork.
Dental insurance typically covers routine dental care, while sleep apnoea, being a medical condition, is often assessed under private medical insurance instead. We help you work out which route applies and submit claims on your behalf.
Because we design and print appliances in-house, most replacements are produced within a few working days rather than the several weeks an external laboratory usually takes.
No. Suitability depends on your dental health, your jaw joints and the type and severity of your sleep condition. Some people are better treated with CPAP or another approach.
Not to book a consultation with us. However, if you have not been diagnosed and there are signs of sleep apnoea, we may recommend a sleep study and arrange a referral before starting appliance therapy.
